Consulting-Specifying Engineer's Product of the Year Awards

Trane, a brand of Ingersoll Rand, has earned two Product of the Year Awards from Consulting-Specifying Engineer Magazine for the Trane Sintesis air-cooled chillers and Trane Air-Fi Wireless building controls technology.

The annual readers’ choice award honors the product development achievements of manufacturers and suppliers whose products or services are considered noteworthy in helping to improve the building environment.

Trane Sintesis chillers are part of the Ingersoll Rand EcoWise portfolio of products designed to lower environmental impact with low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants and high-efficiency operation. They are available now and can operate with either R-134a or Opteon XP10 (R-513A), a GWP refrigerant from The Chemours Co. Opteon XP10 provides a performance and efficiency match to R-134a, with a 56-percent reduction in GWP.

Sintesis chillers use up to 40 percent lower refrigerant charge due to the low refrigerant (CHIL) evaporator designs and micro-channel condenser designs. In addition to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the chillers provide building efficiency, low sound output and leverage AdaptiView control panel for operation.

Building owners and managers face challenges connected to maintenance and repair with traditional wired building controls systems, which fail when wires are cut, disconnected or damaged. Trane Air-Fi wireless technology is a solution that eliminates the need to run wires throughout a facility.

Trane Air-Fi wireless helps building performance with self-repairing mesh technology that features redundant signal paths to help prevent communication failures. Trane offers a 200-foot indoor signal range, with up to four times the number of paths, extending up to half-mile when unobstructed.

Air-Fi wireless is a ZigBee Certified Building Automation solution, and the system is built on a platform that supports BACnet open standards. This allows customers to integrate devices when the building expands or changes. Wireless sensors can be moved or replaced as needed to resolve issues related to sensing accuracy, aesthetics or reconfigured spaces.

Air-Fi wireless also conforms to the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, giving customers a wireless BAS communication system that coexists with other wireless systems, including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, without interference.
