The Trane® CoolSense™ Integrated Outdoor Air System combines a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) with chilled-water, sensible-cooling terminal units to deliver a flexible, energy efficient solution.
WHY COOLSENSE ?
Closer Look: How it Works
The sensible-cooling terminal unit utilizes conditioned outside air from the dedicated outside air unit.
Cool and dry ventilation air is modulated and measured using an airflow-measuring damper.
A variable-speed fan with ECM draws in air from the plenum through a sensible-only cooling coil.
Chilled water is supplied from the dual-temperature chiller plant to this sensible-only cooling coil. Remember chilled water supplied to this cooling coil is below the space dew point temperature to ensure the coil is only removing the sensible (dry heat) load.
The conditioned ventilation and recirculation air mix in the fan compartment and is then delivered to your space.
Optional hot-water or electric heat is available to act as zone level heating.
To ensure proper operation, the unit is equipped with a factory-mounted and pre-programmed UC400 unit controller

Dual-Temperature Chiller Plants
This Engineers Newsletter describes several dual-temperature chiller plant configurations that can provide two temperatures—one cool enough to provide sensible cooling but warm enough to avoid condensation, and the other cold enough to dehumidify.
