Sean Boland, Jr. appointed President

New Roles Announced as Boland Celebrates 60 Years of Making Buildings Better

[GAITHERSBURG, MARYLAND, December 2020] Boland is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Boland, Jr. as Boland’s new President, effective January 1, 2021. Jim Boland, Chief Executive Officer, will add the additional role of Chairman of the Board of Directors.


Boland was founded in 1960 by Jim’s father, Louis J. Boland, and is celebrating its 60th year in business in 2020. Jim has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since 2003. With this change, he will take on the role of Chairman of the Board. Sean will be the third-generation Boland to lead the organization. “We know that Sean will lead Boland in our journey to transform the delivery of optimal building performance, creating win-win relationships with our clients, our associates, and our community.” said Sarah Heitkemper, Sr. Vice President.


Since joining the company full-time in 2003, Sean has held roles of increasing responsibility, including Sales, Operations, and Executive Management. Before accepting his new role as President, Sean was Executive Vice President, overseeing many lines of business within the Boland organization. In addition to his life-long “on-the-job training” within the Boland organization, Sean’s educational achievements include a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University in Economics and History, a Master of Business Administration from Georgetown University, and completion of the Trane Graduate Training Program (GTP).


Sean’s industry leadership includes recent election to the role of President of the National Association of Trane Franchise Holders (NATFH). He has also recently served as an Industry Fund Trustee and Chairman for the Mechanical Contractors Association of Metropolitan Washington, where he also served as a member of the Collective Bargaining Committee.
