Refrigerants are a hot topic in the HVAC industry. It's not a matter of if a change will come with refrigerants, it's when. Building owners, engineers, and contractors need to be aware of the upcoming federal, state, and local regulations that are under development. Starting January 1, 2024: HVAC companies can no longer sell chillers with R134A. Currently, R134A is in most chillers that are in buildings today. This includes Water-Cooled Chillers and Air-Cooled Chillers. Starting on January 1, 2025: high-pressure refrigerants such as R410A will be removed from any new equipment.
